Even if you love your job, you don’t want it to take up your entire life. Fortunately, there are plenty of occupations that allow you to make good money while giving you plenty of time to enjoy the little things.
Hairdressers
BLS statistics show that hairdressers make an average of $26,270 annually, and all that’s needed is to complete a nondegree training program to be licensed by your state. Basically, the job consists of washing, cutting and styling hair, but you can add other hair-based talents if you wish. 44% of hairdressers are self-employed, which gives them total control over their schedules and work-life balance. Even those who work for salons and spas have considerable leeway over their schedules compared to most jobs.
Fitness and recreation professionals
Their salaries average at about $26,350, and all that’s required is a high school diploma or GED. You’ll be leading activities in the fields of fitness, health, arts, sports or music among other things. You could be employed by a school, summer camp, nursing home, community center or any location that offers courses in this field. You’ll also see your health improve, which is a good indicator that your work and life are in perfect balance.
Glaziers
Glaziers help install glass on buildings, so theirs is a growth industry. The average salary is $44,630, and you’ll need a high school diploma or GED. Many firms and states also require you to undergo an apprenticeship at a training school or a local glaziers union. Otherwise, you can start right out of high school. Without college, you don’t have to worry about being bogged down by student loan debt. Glazing is usually done during regular business hours, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy life on evenings and weekends.
Dental hygienists
You will need to go to school for this one since it requires an associate degree. You’ll be working with dentists to clean teeth, do X-rays and educate patients on proper oral hygiene. In exchange, you’ll be making an average of $76,220 a year. Although many positions in this field are full-time jobs, there’s plenty of part-time work available. You can work as little as a few days a week while still making enough money to live your life the way you want.
Website developers
This occupation also requires an associate degree and averages a $73,760 annual salary. Your job will be to build, design and maintain websites for a variety of clients. You can specialize in front-end development, which is focusing on user experience, or back-end development, which is the more technical side of things. Either way, most of this work is done remotely on a flexible schedule, which lends itself well to those who need a good work-life balance.
