The advice constantly seems to be changing. Lately, people seem to be turning away from carbs as they associate them highly with weight gain. While an excessive amount of carbohydrates will cause you to gain weight a certain amount is really important to your diet. Instead of weight gain, we should associate carbs with energy and energy is crucial to how we perform during the day. One of the greatest carbohydrates available to us is potatoes. Here we list a few reasons why you likely need to eat more.

Potatoes may not seem like a superfood but they are. Potatoes contain something called pyridoxine which can improve the health of your brain and some studies have shown that it will stop Alzheimer’s disease from taking hold.

Potatoes are packed with a lot more than carbohydrates. They are full of protein, potassium, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Eating more potatoes likely means you don’t need to take so many supplements. If you are someone who worries about health then potatoes are a great way to boost your immune system all year round.

Vitamin C is excellent to help protect you from the harsh rays of the sun and helps to build collagen in your body. Potatoes are full of vitamin C and are therefore great for your skin. If you are worried about fine lines or wrinkles then start adding potatoes to your diet.

Good for your digestion

Potatoes are full of fiber which can help to relieve indigestion or constipation. If you are not going to the bathroom regularly enough make potatoes a staple of your diet and they will have you visiting the restroom a lot more. 

Good for weight loss

Some people find this hard to believe. Potatoes are full of carbohydrates so people automatically think they are going to make us fatter. However, the carbs are actually likely to make you feel more full. If you are someone who has salads for lunch every day to be healthy but then finds yourself snacking for the rest of the day, you are likely not enough real solid food. Eat more healthy carbs to ensure you feel full throughout the day and don’t feel the need to snack at all.

Good for meal planning

One of the great things about potatoes is how versatile they are. You can make wedges, chips, mash, boiled, roasted, au gratin, and much, much more. Potatoes can be used in so many ways that you can enjoy them with any meal. We haven’t even mentioned sweet potatoes yet, another great option from the potato family.

The sad truth is that many people avoid foods like potatoes because they feel it will add to their weight and cause them health issues. It is these same people that would actually benefit from eating more potatoes. Potatoes are delicious so you do need to be careful. You shouldn’t eat them with every meal every single day and you shouldn’t eat too much of them in any one meal. However, a few potatoes with your lunch or dinner is a healthy way to increase your nutrient intake and feel full in a healthy positive way. If you have said goodbye to potatoes as part of your diet then it is time to say hello once again. Ignore what the influencer social media experts say and embrace a great and healthy food.
