The world’s most extensive private Scotch whiskey collection will soon go live that could fetch you a staggering $10.5 million at once.
Named as “the Perfect Collection,” the spirits were stocked up by the late Richard Gooding, who was a private American collector from Colorado.
More about the collection
For those who are thinking of going up for a whiskey auction, this could be a bit helpful for you. As per the specialist drinks sellers and Whiskey Auctioneers, Gooding spent decades for the “perfect” drinks collection and used to travel regularly to Scotland in search of unique bottles at distilleries and auctions.
The collection consisted of more than 3,900 bottles, which primarily included single malt Scotch whiskey and is scheduled to be sold in the year 2020 valued at more than $1.6 million.
The eclectic collection of whiskeys included some valuable and rare bottles from Bowmore, The Macallan, and Springbank. Some of them were included from the distilleries, which are now closed, including Dallas Dhu and Stromness Distillery. Among the top-shelf bottles for sale consists of a Lalique Six Pillars Collection, which is 50 years old, and has an estimated auction price of $118,000-$131,000. The US import rare 60 years old Macallan 126, beautiful and unique, could be sold at an auction price up to around $1.6 million.
A whiskey expert and critic in an interview said, “It was incredible to see such a rare sight at auction, with complete whiskey collection of this value and size all at once. Something which makes it more intriguing is its’ sheer comprehensiveness and diversity of Mr Gooding’s collection.” She also added that “Mr Gooding was a perfect passionate and eclectic whiskey collector, he was often seen flying around the world to source out some elusive collection of whiskeys. He has several high profile bottles like the 1926 Black Bowmores and Macallans. He also amassed a treasure of enchanting bottles from such a wide range of distilleries, also including few that are long lost.”
“The collection as a whole is intriguing. It gives insight into one man’s intent and perseverance to one of his great love. I could never imagine a man who could have this type of collection and be this compelling collector,” she added.
