When it comes to making a few extra dollars, the first thing we do is look around the house. While you may not be willing to sell your sitting room TV just yet there are plenty of other bargains to be had from the things you don’t want. Remember one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Let’s dive in and discover some treasure.
Rotary Phones
Wireless is the way to go nowadays. Before wireless, there was wired and it all began with rotary phones, you know the ones that you had to spin the dial to choose a number. Well even if you don’t know how to use them, learn how to recognize them. These are the exact type of things that your parents or grandparents would avoid throwing out. It could be sitting in a box somewhere in your house and worth a small fortune. The bolder and brighter the color the more it will fetch. Have a look at any auction site to see just how much these vintage items are going for today.
Discontinued Products
Humans are creatures of habit. We like what we know and what we like we want to use again and again. If a product becomes discontinued its sale price can rocket on online auction sites. If you know of any popular products that will be discontinued buy them and sell them at a higher price or simply check if any of your existing stuff is no longer available.
Pine Cones
At last! Money really does grow on trees! If you have pine cones in your neighborhood, become a collector. A collection of large pine cones will be purchased by creative types who want to create wreaths or centerpieces. Pine cones also make great items to burn in a bbq, so even if you don’t get a buyer it will save you money.
Driftwood
If money doesn’t grow on trees try selling the trees themselves. Large pieces of driftwood are known to fetch a few dollars from those who create furniture or art pieces.
Vintage items
A broad category but so many things can fit in here. Your old road maps, your old iron keys, your old eyeglasses, your old license plate. Anything that has become completely unusable is now worth money so think twice before throwing it out.
As a rule of thumb, look at everything twice. Do I need this? No. Would anyone pay money for this? Maybe. Most auction websites don’t charge for unsuccessful listings. Put an item up and see if it sells. If it does great, if it doesn’t you have lost nothing, bin it. Hidden treasures are just that, hidden. If you saw the value in them you wouldn’t throw them out so don’t be surprised if someone else loves your trash.
