Five Steps to Starting Your Day Right

If you have heard the expression “got out of the wrong side of the bed” then you will know just how important starting your day off right is. If you have a bad start to the day it will just bring negativity to everything else, start it off right and you are on to a winner. Here are our tips for doing it the right way.

Sleep

The most important thing is to ensure that you are getting enough sleep. If you are getting less than 7 hours of sleep a night then you are basically starting the day weaker than everyone else. If a day was a race, you would be starting behind. Give yourself an advantage and ensure you get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep every night. Studies have shown it is incredibly important to mental and physical performance in every facet of our lives.

Make your bed

When you wake up in the morning, make your bed. It sounds simple, it may even sound a little silly but trust us, it matters. William McRaven of the US Navy famously said: “if you want to change the world, start off by making your bed”. The idea is simple, small successes lead to bigger wins. If you start the first two minutes of your day already accomplishing something then you will go on to achieve more throughout the day. It sets your attitude up for winning.

Drink water

The moment you wake up (after you make your bed) drink a glass of water. It tells your body you are awake and starts it moving. It hydrates you which helps to wake you up and makes everything easier.

Practice gratitude

The moment you wake up, be thankful. Think of one thing you are happy about and take that attitude into the world. If you are negative you will attract negativity. If you are positive, you will attract positivity. 

Exercise

It is a great idea to start your day with exercise. You may think you don’t have the time, but you do. Skip the Netflix the night before and choose exercise in the morning instead. Exercise can be a form of meditation and can be a great way to start the day on the right foot. 

So practice these five steps and get out of bed on the right side from now on.
